Meet the Sydney Comets Captains

Q&A with John Crnogorac and Alexandra Kayrouz from The Sydney Comets

At Supa Centa Moore Park, supporting our community is at the heart of what we do. Sponsoring the Sydney Comets is just one way we give back to our local sporting community, fostering talent and dedication in young athletes.

As proud sponsors of the Sydney Comets NBL1 basketball teams, Supa Centa Moore Park is excited to introduce you to team captains, John Crnogorac and Alexandra Kayrouz. Learn more about their basketball journey, their everyday routines, and what they love most about Supa Centa!

Q. What do you consider to be your most significant achievement in basketball so far?

A: Alexandra: My most significant achievement in basketball thus far has been winning Gold at the Australian Junior Championship last year as part of the NSW State Team.

A: John: My biggest achievement has been playing Division 1 college basketball in America and graduating with a Bachelor Degree at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Q. What methods do you use to stay motivated and energised before a game?

A: Alexandra: Music is a key part of my routine and warm-up before games. It allows me to get in the zone, ensuring I have the right mindset, ready to play.

A: John: I listen to Taylor Swift on the drive to the game with my girlfriend!

Q. What do you love the most about Supa Centa Moore Park?

A: Alexandra: I love the environment! From the family-friendly atmosphere to the range of stores and cafés, and the regular events and activities, Supa Centa has something for everyone.

A: John: Harvey Norman is my favourite store at the Supa Centa. We recently purchased our toaster, microwave and kettle there.

Q. Can you describe a specific moment where you felt particularly proud of your contribution to your team?

A: Alexandra: Our recent Central Coast game was a crucial win for our team. In a game that was up and down the whole 40 minutes, I was particularly proud of my defensive contribution in the last few minutes. With little between us and our opposing team, we locked down in defence to produce some big defensive stops, which lead to the win. As a game that put our team into the Top 8 and in a position to qualify for finals, this was a game I was particularly happy with.

A: John: I can’t say there are any specific moments because if the team is succeeding then I am also succeeding.

Q. What is your favourite go-to cheat meal?

A: Alexandra: Chicken Nuggets from McDonald’s with a Frozen Coke is definitely my go-to cheat meal.

A: John: I wouldn’t call it a cheat meal but my favourite go-to is a classic pub Chicken Parmi.

Q. How do you relax in your living space to help you decompress after a game?

A: Alexandra: Post-game relaxation often involves a long shower and a nap.

A: John: Having a shower and laying down on our oversized couch to watch movies or play some Xbox seems to do the trick best.

Q. What is your favourite activity besides basketball?

A: Alexandra: Outside of basketball, I love to ski – it’s one of my favourite activities. With a family full of skiers, trips to the snow are always filled with fun!

Q. What advice do you have for young people aiming to reach the NBL?

A: Alexandra: My advice to young people trying to get to the NBL is to continue to work at your goals. No one’s journey to be the best is smooth sailing so you must stay committed no matter what.

A: John: My favourite thing to tell young people aspiring to a goal like the NBL is to become amazing at the things no one likes doing. Rebounding and defending every possession like it’s the end of the game and hustling for every little inch so that coaches will notice you – your value will shine on the scoreboard.

Sydney Comets captains, Alexandra and John, dedication to basketball and their love for Supa Centa Moore Park mirror our commitment to community, excellence, and providing a welcoming environment for all. We are committed to helping you plan your shopping experience and making your house a home – curated for living.
