Welcome to Renovate Me Please! Transforming Tristan Black from Married at First Sight. By the Renovate Me Please! Co-hosts Jules & Cam from MAFS and Steph & Gian from The Block.
Inside-Out Makeover Magic
In our exciting premiere episode, we’re diving into a dual transformation project for Tristan Black from MAFS. Jules and Cam are on a mission to help Tristan renovate his life from the inside out to drive his new career direction, while Steph and Gian focus on his studio apartment, turning it into a tranquil haven that aligns with his new life direction thanks to the Supa Centa Moore Park.
Breaking Down the Renovation Process
When tackling any renovation, it’s crucial to break the project into manageable zones. For Tristan’s studio, we identified key areas: sleeping, working, socializing, cooking, and fashion. Our goal? To create a serene, cohesive space reflecting Tristan’s love for the ocean, despite the studio’s limited direct view of it.
Zoning: The Secret to Smart Space Usage
We started by applying our zone structure. In each area, we asked practical questions: Does Tristan need a study desk? Should it be adjustable for various uses, like dining with friends? How can we incorporate necessary power outlets for his TV, computer, and DJ gear without cluttering the space?

Designing for a Smaller Space with Supa Centa Moore Park
Creating functional zones in a small space can be challenging. At Tristan’s, we used a thin framed bookshelf from Freedom Furniture as a stylish divider. This open design allowed for storage and decoration while maintaining the room’s airy feel. It also enabled Tristan to watch his wall-mounted television from his bed – a clever, versatile design solution. We also focused on lighting to lift the room mood at nighttime with some cool lamps from Beacon Lighting.
Multifunctional Furniture
We rotated Tristan’s bed to double as a daybed for TV watching, outfitted with oversized pillows for comfort. The bedhead, from our Japandi Range, features a calming sandy tone and wave shape, echoing the nearby ocean. We dressed it with neutral linens from Freedom, creating a restful, cohesive look with throw over rugs which could be used in both zones. In the living space we chose a light Como couch from James Lane which was slightly shorter in length than his previous couch and a lower back with soft pillows allowed for the room to feel more spacious. A modular sleek black table from Freedom fitted perfectly in this space allowing Tristan to set-up his computer with legs tucked under for spot of work while relaxing by the TV.
Also, a multi-function table from Freedom doubles as a work table, or allows high stools to pull up for a casual dinner in this space, another clever idea for small spaces.
Incorporating Local Vibes
Any good renovation should reflect its surroundings. To capture the essence of Manly, we explored Shelley Beach with Tristan, drawing inspiration from its natural textures and colours. We brought the beach indoors with artwork from Oz Design that mirrors the horizon line, strategically placing it where Tristan can enjoy an ocean view from inside.
Space-Smart Renovation Tips
Week 1: Focus on Big Items
– Prioritise the main furniture pieces like the bed, lounge, and dining table.
Week 2: Style with Infills
– Make a checklist for smaller items like lamps, plants, and side tables to complete the look.
Week 3: Bring in Nature
– Use splashes of greenery to bring a calm and down to earth mood to the spaces you are renovating.
The Smart Space Approach
Our goal was to make Tristan’s studio feel larger and more functional. By wall-mounting a Samsung Gallery TV from The Good Guys, we freed up valuable space, transforming the TV into a gallery-like feature. The thin-profile bookshelf divider from Freedom added storage without bulk, enhancing the room’s openness.
Optimising the Kitchen Zone
In the kitchen, we repositioned Tristan’s new teal appliances from The Good Guys, maximizing storage above the fridge. Steph created a streamlined power setup for his toaster, kettle, and coffee maker, all in Tristan’s favourite accent colour, teal.
Personal Touches and Motivation
Around Tristan’s mirror and dressing area, we installed a pinboard filled with motivational quotes, recent MAFS pictures, and motivational reminders from Cam. This vision board is a daily reminder of Tristan’s new goals and dreams, encouraging him to stay focused and inspired.
The Final Outcome
We’ve transformed Tristan’s studio into a calm, decluttered space with a gallery-style ambiance, blending creative touches with a soothing beach vibe. This makeover not only enhances Tristan’s living environment but also supports his journey toward a fresh, inspired life.
